Getting started
What do I need to create my first story?
An e-mail address and about five minutes. You create a parent account, confirm your e-mail, add a profile for your child, and then walk through the story wizard. The first story is usually finished before a cup of tea is.
How do I create an account?
Choose Sign up, enter your e-mail address and a password, and accept the required declarations. We send a confirmation code to that address; enter it and your account is active. You can also sign up with Google or Apple, in which case the address comes from that provider and is already confirmed.
The confirmation e-mail has not arrived. What now?
Check the spam folder first — a message from a sender you have never written to often lands there. If it is not there, use the resend option on the confirmation screen. To stop the feature being used to flood an inbox, resends are limited to a few per quarter of an hour; if you hit that limit, wait a few minutes and try once more.
Your account
Can I change my e-mail address?
No. The address you register with is the permanent identifier of the account and cannot be changed afterwards, by you or by us. Please choose an address you expect to keep.
I forgot my password.
Use Forgot password on the sign-in screen. We send a one-time code to your address; enter it together with your new password. For your safety the screen looks the same whether or not the address is registered — that way nobody can use the form to find out who has an account here.
What happens when I change my password?
Every session signed in with the old password stops working within about a minute, on every device. That is deliberate: if someone else had got into your account, changing the password must actually remove them.
How do I change the language of the interface?
Use the language selector in the header. It changes the interface only. The language a story is written in is chosen separately, inside the wizard, so you can read the app in one language and make stories in another.
How do I delete my account?
Write to us from the address the account is registered to and we will remove it. Deletion removes your child profiles, your stories and your illustrations. It cannot be undone, so download anything you want to keep first. Your rights over your data are described in our privacy policy.
Child profiles
What do you ask for, and why?
A name, an age and a gender, plus an avatar you pick from a set we provide. The name is what the hero of the story is called. The age decides how long the story is and how simple the language is. The gender is needed for grammar: in Polish, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Russian, verbs and adjectives change form, and a story that gets this wrong reads as though it were about somebody else.
Do I have to use my child's real name?
No. A nickname works exactly as well, and the story will use it throughout. Nothing in the app requires the name to be the legal one.
What do you never ask for?
We do not ask for a surname, an address, a school, a date of birth or a photograph. Avatars are chosen from a fixed set of drawings; you cannot upload a picture of your child, by design.
Can I have more than one child?
Yes, as many profiles as you need. Each story is made for one of them, and each keeps its own library.
Credits
What is a credit?
Credits are what generating a story costs. A new account starts with a balance large enough for several stories. Your current balance and the exact cost of a story are shown in the app before you confirm, so you always see the price before you spend anything.
What happens to my credits if a story fails?
If generation fails, the credits taken for it are returned to your balance. You should never pay for a story you did not receive. If a balance looks wrong after a failure, contact us with the date and we will check it.
Which currency am I charged in?
In euros or — if you live in Poland — in Polish złoty. We set the złoty prices ourselves and they are fixed; they are not converted from euros, so they do not change from one day to the next. You choose the currency with the selector on the pricing page and on your credits page, and the choice is remembered on your device, separately from the language the app is displayed in. Złoty are available at checkout when you give Poland as your country of residence.
How many credits can I hold?
Up to 3,000. If a package would take you over that limit, the order is not accepted — use some of your credits first.
Payments
How do I pay for a package?
On your credits page, choose a package, select the country you live in and choose Continue to payment. You finish paying on the secure page of our payment provider, Stripe. You can pay by card (also through Apple Pay and Google Pay), PayPal, Klarna or Revolut Pay; in euros there are also iDEAL, Bancontact and EPS, and in złoty BLIK. Which methods you see depends on the currency and your device. We never see your card number — it goes to Stripe only. The price of an order is guaranteed for 60 minutes; if you do not pay within that time, simply place the order again.
Why do you sell credits only in the European Union?
Because every sale has to carry the right VAT for the buyer’s country, and inside the EU there is one set of rules that a small company like ours can follow honestly. Outside the EU every country has its own registrations and returns. So packages are sold to people living in any of the 27 EU Member States — on the same terms in each — except for a few territories that lie outside the EU VAT area, such as the Canary Islands or the French overseas departments. The full list is in § 5 of the Terms. We compare the country you give with the country your card was issued in and with your billing address. If they point outside the EU, we do not add the credits and refund the whole amount within 14 days.
I have paid, but the credits are not there yet.
They usually arrive within seconds. With some methods, BLIK for example, the bank confirms the payment up to a few minutes later — until then the app shows that the payment is being confirmed. When the credits arrive we send an e-mail confirming the purchase, with the order number. If they are still missing after an hour, contact us and tell us when you paid.
What will my statement show?
The payment is described with the word FABLESHIP. The same name is in the e-mail confirming the purchase.
Will I get an invoice?
We do not attach one automatically — the confirmation e-mail is your proof of purchase. If you need an invoice, contact us within three months of the end of the month in which you paid and give the order number. Packages are sold to private individuals; if you want to buy credits for a business, contact us before you pay.
How do I get my money back?
Within 14 days of a purchase you can withdraw from it without giving a reason, for the credits from that package you have not used yet. Write to us from the address your account is registered to and give the order number. We refund the money within 14 days, in the currency you paid in and by the method you used, and the refunded credits are removed from your balance. Your account stays. Stories already generated and welcome credits are not refunded. The details are in § 9 of the Terms.
What happens if my bank reverses a payment?
If you dispute a payment with your bank (a chargeback), we remove all the credits from that order from your account, including any already used, so your balance can drop below zero. The stories you have stay, but new ones cannot be created until the balance is back above zero, for example after another purchase. If something is wrong with a payment, contact us first — a refund from us is quicker than a dispute with the bank.
Creating a story
What are the steps?
The wizard has five: Hero (which child the story is about), Theme (what kind of adventure it is), Characters (other people, pets or friends who appear, each with a name and a role), Style (how the illustrations look), and Summary, where you check everything and confirm.
What is the magic ingredient?
An optional detail of your own — a favourite toy, a family joke, a place you have been. It is woven into the plot. It is also the one piece of free text in the whole flow, so it is filtered carefully before it reaches the story; if something you typed is rejected, rephrase it rather than repeating it.
How long does generation take?
Usually two to three minutes. Writing the text is quick; drawing an illustration for every page is the slow part. You can watch the progress on screen and you can leave the page — the story keeps generating and will be in your library when it is done.
Can I edit a story after it is generated?
Not at the moment. If a story is not what you hoped for, make another one with a different theme or a different magic ingredient — small changes to the inputs produce quite different stories.
Reading, saving and sharing
Where are my stories?
In your library, with their covers, newest first. Open one and it reads as a book: one illustrated page at a time, with next and previous.
What does publishing a story do?
It gives the story a public web address that anyone with the link can open, and lists it among the stories other visitors can discover. It does not publish your child's profile, your e-mail address or your account. Publishing is optional and every story stays private until you choose otherwise.
Can I unpublish?
Yes, from your publications. The public page stops working. Note that a page which has already been visited may be held in a content cache for up to a day, so it can take that long to disappear everywhere.
Can I delete a story?
Yes, from the library. Deleting removes the story and its illustrations.
Safety
How do you keep the content appropriate?
In layers. The instructions sent to the model are written by us and constrain what a story may contain. What you type is checked before it is used. The finished text is checked again before you ever see it, and so are the illustrations. A story that fails a check is not shown.
Is it perfect?
No, and we would rather say so than pretend. These are automated checks on text a machine wrote. They are strict, and they are the reason we can promise age-appropriate stories, but no automated system catches everything. If you ever find a story that is not right for a child, tell us and we will look at it.
Why was my input rejected?
Because a safety check flagged something in it. The checks err on the cautious side, so a perfectly innocent phrase is occasionally caught. Rephrasing usually solves it.
Languages
Which languages do you support?
English, Polish, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Turkish — for the interface, for the stories and for the e-mails we send you.
Can I make a story in a language other than my interface language?
Yes. The story language is a separate choice, made per story. Families raising children in two languages use this to make the same kind of story in each.
Troubleshooting
Generation seems stuck.
Give it a few minutes — two to three is normal, and a busy period can stretch that. If a request is still unfinished long after that, it has failed rather than stalled; the credits come back and you can try again.
Illustrations are missing or will not load.
Images are served through links that expire, so a page left open for a long time can end up with stale ones. Reload the page. If they are still missing, contact us with the story's title and roughly when you made it.
Which browsers work?
Any current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on a computer, a tablet or a phone. The app needs a connection — stories are generated on our servers, not on your device, and cannot be read offline.
Still need help?
Read the Parent Guide for how the app is meant to be used with a child, rather than how it works. For anything else, write to us at office@codeenable.com or use the contact form — we read every message.
